The antique Venice building of the 15th century, known as ca’ Priuli has become an object for a new project, where, after the long design experiments, it became possible to create a new hotel complex. While working under this project, both project owners and architects tried to combine traditions with modern trends, emphasizing the magnificence of the historic building.
Creation of a new entrance has become a striking accent: the storage room on the part of Strada Nova turned into a high front entrance, which in itself is the implementation of the union of tradition and modernity.
The interesting style decision was the opposition of the two staircases, which play absolutely different roles in this ensemble: the first one is solid-cast and extensive, made of stone, and the second is light, almost fleeting, which gradually brings the visitor from the monumental entrance to new perspectives of the revitalized space.
Simple geometric shapes emphasize the historical value of the building with the help of the traditional Venetian “genius loci”: stone, crystal, water and light. They visualize elegant images, where substance, expanding space, smoothly flows from the stairs to the waters of the channel – this is how a specific Venetian interior, in which silence and peace slowly contemplate the passage of time, is born.
The channel waters, in addition to the visual effect, serve a reflection for natural light falling from the central entrance. Therefore, it seems as if the space is beyond the limits of the stone walls, and the stairs seem to be fluctuating in the shining aperture developed. The space is undergoing a vertical transformation as well: a spiral staircase made of white steel transforms it into a new dimension. Special technical solutions, made under the clear guidance of Venetian masters, allowed giving the interior light harmony and soft lighting – this attracts attention and awakens the visitors’ imagination.
